HAPPY PI DAY (3.14) FROM NKSO! Yesterday started off great when our friends at 7-Eleven stopped by and dropped off several pizzas for the staff to celebrate Pi Day. We really appreciate the support and the delicious surprise! However… shortly after delivery, we received reports of missing pizza slices🚨 After a brief investigation, one suspect quickly emerged: K-9 Xena. 🐾🍕 While no formal charges have been filed at this time, evidence suggests Xena may have gotten a little too excited about the Pi Day celebration and conducted her own unauthorized “taste test.” We’re still working to calculate the total loss… but it’s somewhere around 3.14159 slices… give or take a few more. Thanks again to 7-Eleven for thinking of us and helping make Pi Day a little more fun!

It was truly inspiring to see such an outpouring of support from our community for this important new facility. Your presence made the day special and showed just how much New Kent cares about the welfare of our animals. ❤️ We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the past and present members of the Board of Supervisors and Sheriffs whose vision, commitment, and hard work helped bring this project to completion. Because of their dedication, our community now has a modern facility that will better serve and protect the animals of New Kent County for years to come. The 2026 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs is taking place Saturday, March 14, 2026, and is expected to bring heavy traffic to parts of New Kent County. 📍 Areas Affected: • Rt. 155 at Kentland Trail • Kentland Trail at Colonial Downs Parkway 🕘 Expected Impact: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM Motorists traveling in the area should expect significant delays and periodic congestion near the raceway. 🚗 Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible. Deputies will be in the area assisting with traffic control to help keep everyone moving safely.

Joseph McLaughlin, Jr Animal Shelter Grand Opening Celebration We are thrilled to invite the public to the official grand opening of the New Kent Animal Protection Shelter: Friday, March 133:00 PM – 5:00 PM To assist with parking and reduce congestion, we encourage all attendees to park at Pine Fork Park (7600 Bristlecone Blvd, Quinton, VA) and take the provided shuttle service to the shelter. Shuttles begin running at 2:15 PM Service will continue until the event concludes at 5:00 PM. A Community Blessing This shelter would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of our citizens, community partners, and animal advocates. We are deeply grateful for the donations, encouragement, and warm-hearten messages received throughout construction. NEW KENT COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO ACTIVE PRISON TERM FOLLOWING METHAMPHETAMINE AND FIREARMS INVESTIGATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Kent County, VA — Anthony Paul Ali, Jr., 30, of Quinton, Virginia, was sentenced on February 23, 2026, in New Kent County Circuit Court to 19 years of active incarceration with an additional 31 years suspended following a guilty plea related to methamphetamine distribution and firearms offenses. Mr. Ali was convicted of distributing 10 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a non-violent convicted felon, and possession of a firearm while committing distribution or possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. One additional charge of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon was nolle prossed as part of the plea agreement. The guilty plea and sentencing were the result of a joint investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine conducted by members of the New Kent Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police Twin Rivers Drug Task Force. On July 15, 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at Mr. Ali’s residence in the 6700 block of Davis Road, located in the Woodhaven Shores subdivision of New Kent County. During the execution of the search warrant at the residence and a vehicle being operated by Mr. Ali, investigators seized: -Over 100 grams of methamphetamine -$5,156 in U.S. currency -11 firearms -Firearms accessories -Multiple calibers of ammunition -Two ballistic vests This investigation highlights the continued collaboration between local and state law enforcement agencies to combat the distribution of illegal narcotics and the associated presence of firearms in our communities.
