Mail ballot application deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 30. The deadline is Tuesday for San Bernardino County voters to sign up to receive a mail ballot in the Nov. 6, 2018 Statewide General Election. Voters may submit an online application at SBCountyElections.com

Jonathan Antillon of Fontana wears clothing reminiscent of the 1930s to Chino's Pioneer Picnic, held May 20 at the Chino Community Building, A history buff, Mr. Antillon found out about the Pioneer Picnic from his father Juan Antillon, who works for the city of Chino.

Former Chino resident Bob Edwards and his son-in-law Hugo Mitre check out Chino’s old jail, in the park on 11th Street, between B and C streets. In 1913, Chino paid $558 to build the jail. In 1996, it was relocated to its present location. It is only opened on special occasions.

Visitors to the Pioneer Picnic on May 20 check out early Chino artifacts at the Old Schoolhouse Museum. It is located at the corner of B and 11th streets. Museum hours are: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month.

Chino Valley Historical Society President Ryan Cummins, a fourth generation Chino resident and grandson of Betty Wagner Cummins, was the emcee at Chino's Pioneer Picnic on May 20. His children, Samantha, 11, and Leo, 9, are fifth-generation.

John Wells and his wife Cheryl of Plano, Texas won the distinction of having come the farthest for the Pioneer Picnic, held May 20 in the Chino Community Building. Mr. Wells grew up in Chino and was the valedictorian of Chino High's Class of 1957.

Bob Rohrer and his son Ron look at fossils displayed in the Old Schoolhouse Museum during Chino's Pioneer Picnic on May 20. Bob was born and raised in Chino and moved away in 1997. The museum, which contains artifacts of early Chino, was open as part of the Pioneer Picnic.

News from Don Lugo High... varsity baseball coach Jeff Abel has been relieved of his duties after three years and three straight Mt. Baldy League titles. “We appreciate the job he did, but are going in a different direction,” said Don Lugo athletic director James Donoho.
