“The baby hasn’t slept through the night consistently for months. Turn the alarm off.” “The world has been a super dark place, just chill out and take a break.” “5am is way too early after being woken up at 2am.” “Get up early, but use the time to catch up on work and content. You don’t need to add one more thing.” “Any energy you have left should go into family time, not the gym.” “You’ve been traveling for conferences and client visits, it’s impossible to stay on a schedule.” “You are fried from teaching, writing, and advising, there’s no capacity left for a workout.” “You are on your feet enough chasing V around the house at night and on weekends, that counts as exercise.” “You can get back into a routine once work calms down a little.” ^^^These are the many excuses I’ve been telling myself for MONTHS so I could do anything but sign up for a class. I’ve barely done anything physical…at all. A huge part of my life until this point just thrown aside. It’s scary easy to fall out of it, and 10x harder to get back in. That ended today. No more excuses. Turns out they are on day 2 of “hell week” (I had no idea). Time to find comfort in the uncomfortable.

@MattLaciskey I bring up this question every time I talk to clients about their RSUs for the first time unless I know that they’ve been selling them upon vest (rare)… I would estimate 80% are confused over the taxation, and think holding the shares after they vest for a year is the move.

1. For RSUs, ask yourself this: If my bonus was paid in cash, would I use it to buy the stock? If not, consider selling You've already been taxed once it vests anyway

A common issue I see with Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), Stock Options, and ESPPs? Concentrated positions because you “haven't had the time” and you're drowning in decisions Here's the framework I use with families to create a clear process for their equity comp:

@MattLaciskey When someone expresses that they think their bonus is taxed at a different rate, it tells me that they also don’t understand what is happening in a general sense when they file their tax return each year, yet people think accountants are going to be completely replaced by AI

Your bonus is NOT taxed at a higher rate The withholding is just different than your regular income Since a bonus is supplemental wages Withholding is a flat 22% until your supplemental wages is > $1,000,000 Then it's withheld at 37% This is a common misconception

@danjstefanski On a related note, when I was watching Breaking Bad, seeing Gus Fring have two residences connected by a tunnel, all I could think about was the tax treatment. 280E comes into play. Businesses use of home. Seems an underground tunnel could qualify for bonus depreciation.

@MAnfilofyev @AccountingToday In my opinion, the only reason to outsource is because the software isn’t there yet…. The software is just about here.

The accounting profession is closely watching the recent introduction of the Halting International Relocation of Employment, or HIRE, Act in the U.S. Senate. This proposed legislation could fundamentally reshape how CPA firms approach international outsourcing. bit.ly/3V9oYiz #accounting #outsourcing

25% excise tax on “outsourcing payments” to foreign firms serving US consumers = math that breaks the old off-shore model. We swapped call-center nurses for an AI voice that never sleeps; accounting can do the same with audit scut-work. Plug in an LLM, keep the reviewer domestic, pocket the margin.

This is the chaos produced by a triple pendulum with just 3 degrees of freedom. Your hand has 27: 4 per finger + 5 for the thumb + 6 for the wrist Building a robot to conduct this orchestra of joints and tendons to pick up a coin is ... non-trivial.

Starting today, I go into a 6-week period where I see all of my clients! It’s called Surge As or right now, 100 meetings set of my 105 clients The whole idea behind Surge is to be hyper-focused and get into a flow state in an aspect of the business Client meetings will essentially be all I am doing all day - I have between 12-20 meetings set every week through the middle of October This period is my favorite part of my job and it’s the most important we do - meeting with everyone who places the trust and confidence in me to guide them financially The main parts of our agenda for this round of meetings: - Discussing tax partnership and expectations for Spring 2026 - Detailed cash flow review - Reviewing tax plan we crafted over the Summer for year end to-do's, recalculating remaining estimates/withholding - Full benefits review for 2025 Open Enrollment - Review of protection plan: beneficiary review, estate document review, and risk conversation around life, disability, long-term care, property/casualty It isn’t an easy task, and there’s a ton of support needed and we have built out our team to be able to do so! I have support with me in every meeting taking most of the work that comes out of the meeting off of my plate Remember what is most important... empowering action in peoples lives and providing a memorable client experience!

@LoganGrafTax You’re in Texas so you don’t see a lot of clients paying hundreds of thousands of state tax…. In California that change from $10K to $40K is nice for the retired couple sitting on the beach in duel adjacent bathtubs, but still leaves a lot of meat on the bone. PTE lives on.

You're telling me the first year I take on a passthrough entity tax credit project, they make a law that expands the SALT limit? What other tax projects should I take on so Congress can evaporate it?

When I see a social media tax “expert” put out a really stupid video involving “secret loopholes the IRS doesn’t want you to know about” like the QBI deduction, and everyone in my profession tells me I should just let it go. No, I will not be letting it go.
