This is the stuff - Hove bathed in sunshine, applause for the centurion, chatting with good friends, enjoying top-level sport. Miss you @SussexCCC #GOSBTS

Excellent to see @WayneSBarton's latest book appear on this week's @ColesBooks newsletter; his work deserves as large and mainstream an audience as possible.

@WayneSBarton Really, really good Wayne: so much depth . FWIW, I think it's clear that both Busby and SAF weren't afraid to play around with structure when necessary: four forwards, keepers at corners, centre-half popping up, etc. Pertinent to discussions about the current team.

@WayneSBarton Why do I have to get rid of two out of SAF, Pep, Klopp and Wenger? Is there limited seating or something?

@paulenglish1961 That was my first game at Old Trafford as a young 'un. I'd already done two away games though - those were the days!

22nd August 1987, United beat Watford 2-0 in a first division match at Old Trafford. United’s goals were scored by Paul McGrath and Choccy McClair. The attendance that day was 38,582. #MUFC #UTFR #GGMU #ManchesterUnited

@WayneSBarton Very kind, but in fairness I only read that passage on Monday so it was fairly fresh!

Hahaha!! I knew it. I suppose if there’s someone to be outsmarted by it might as well be yourself

@WayneSBarton You should read "Football, taught by Matt Busby" by one of our pre-eminent United chroniclers 😉

United have played home games at : North Road, Bank Street, Old Trafford Maine Road, Anfield, Victoria Ground, Home Park (I feel I’m missing one) Frank O’Farrell’s first 3 home league games were at different grounds.

@reverse_sweeper Just reading @NightwatchmanXI 50- congratulations on a great read (the 2 books are on the pile as well). Despite 25 years' experience in the biz, I'm still keen to know more about these 'operatic explosions' you write of - possibly a lack of vocal technique? 😉

Good Old Sussex by the Sea. An oasis of green within a stone’s throw of the beach. Surrey are heading there tomorrow to see whether they can notch up their first win of 2025. Sussex have momentum behind them after beating Somerset in Round 2, so it’ll be an interesting battle.

10th February 2008, I was at Old Trafford where Utd commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Munich disaster at Old Trafford. The show of scarves that day was spectacular. The City fans played their part. Unfortunately the occasion seemed to get to United who lost the game 2-1.

@BPete1970 @mt8qs4njjw Seriously Pete. Someone from the Marines saw the opera in Paris, and thought "we should nick that tune for our Marine Hymn".

@BPete1970 @mt8qs4njjw I've always loved the fact that: The melody of the 'Halls of Montezuma' is taken from Offenbach's comic opera, 'Genevieve de Brabant' and is sung by two [bumbling] gendarmes. I've sung that duet many, many times.
