For much of today I’ve felt like curling up in a ball away from the world. But I’m so grateful for small moments and big chats with friends and collaborators which bring light and hope, and something else more positive to focus on. Here’s some cute sea otters:

Farage’s demand that we further appease anti-migrant hatred with another swipe at human rights is the opposite of what we need.
But the underlying suggestion here that HAD the Southport killer been an immigrant, riots would be justified is the foghorn giving him away.

The Holocaust seemed incomprehensible. Now we see in real time people carried towards hatred - carried to a place where they would attack the shops, restaurants and businesses of individuals belonging to a particular faith, where they would torch hotels, where they would murder.

Musk is self-evidently a gifted and industrious man in many ways. But here is a subject and country about which Musk knows little to nothing, confidently predicting civil war because of sustained online misinformation he’s imbibed and himself then disseminated. It’s a slow process but a bigger and bigger part of our politics.

Starmer there in his press conference still refusing to address legitimate concerns underlying this terrible violence. Continuing to press home the ‘far right’ line that is causing such anger. Had an opportunity there to calm waters, but instead ratcheted it up again.

The scenes in Rotherham aren’t a protest, they aren’t even a far right riot, they are an ongoing attempt to murder the men, women & children inside by burning them alive.
The stench of these days will hang around those who incited and justified it for the rest of their lives.

There’s a massive queue at my local polling station. I assume at least some of it is to do with voter ID - a subject I imagine we’ll be hearing more about after the election.
