I feel many non-industry folk think of our work as some extension of the high-school theatre they participated in as teens. Just gadding about for fun. I believe they truly do not understand it is blue collar WORK by blue collar folk. And it seems executives see it similarly.

I'll never forget sitting in a soup kitchen with my mom and siblings after she left my abusive step-father. Same one we had volunteered at with our church. I cut fresh fruit for my daughter every meal because it feels like luxury. " My daughter eats MANGOES" playing in my head.

You know how I realized I had "made" it? It wasn't buying a 300 million dollar yacht. It was when I didn't have to weigh my fruit at the supermarket and calculate if I could afford it. I almost cried. I still think about that every time I go grocery shopping.
