When governments strip away public services, weaken safety nets and deepen inequality, people lose hope in democracy and turn to authoritarian “strongmen.” From Weimar Germany to modern Britain, austerity is the midwife of fascism. The only way forward is investment, trust and care.

We have an economy that allows the financial sector to earn profits without investment in productive capacities.
On 'The Rest is Money' with @peston and @stephlunch, discussing why obsessing over fiscal "black holes" misses the point. The real question isn't how much government spends, but whether public investment expands productive capacity and creates the conditions for sustainable growth.
