There’s a ton of these assorted art prompt things that float around this time of year, so i decided to do one of my own. This month I’ll be participating in #StockTober, wherein I take Stock Art I found and make D&D stuff out of it. Mostly monsters, but maybe some other stuff.

@northgalis Idk what changed with how they started doing scene cuts and facial expressions, but the 7.X patches do feel like they really want to Flex and show off a bit.

@halcyontweeter @northgalis That’s a reasonable conclusion you can come to, but I don’t think it disqualifies them from being people. Maybe they aren’t forced to learn/remember, but they still think and feel. And even if you don’t think they are, you should be able to see the parallel.

@NickTheDM @northgalis It's also said that the Endless 'experience their happiest memories over and over', which is why I say they're not capable of creating new ones - not really. They aren't *designed* to create new memories. They're a snapshot of a moment in time.

@leonrdedsn That’s reasonable. Personally I think FFXIV players wouldn’t be able to handle having that much blood on their character’s hands, especially when we don’t actually get to make a choice about it. Sort of the limitations of being an MMO.

É por isso que a maior falha dessa expansão na minha opinião é dizer com todas as letras pro jogador que aquelas pessoas não estão vivas de verdade ao invés de deixar no limbo, tirando todo o peso da decisão dos personagens. Nesse ponto acho q eles tropeçaram onde E33 acertou.

@northgalis The most interesting part about Living Memory to me isn’t Sphene, but that it puts *us* in the shoes of the ascians. Obviously it softens the situation so we won’t feel like “the bad guy”, but it is still ending the “lives” of tons of people that we don’t consider really alive.

@halcyontweeter @northgalis In fact, living people were never supposed to be in Living Memory at all. It’s explicitly not for them, hence why all the food doesn’t taste like anything. If you don’t think they’re alive, that’s fine, but the game definitely intends you to be asking that question.

@halcyontweeter @northgalis You’re just making assumptions. There’s no reason to believe that memories wouldn’t persist through boots. And the Endless aren’t there for the living, because the living *do* have their memories wiped when someone dies. The matchmaking was made between other endless.

@blubrrybag @halcyontweeter @northgalis My point is that somewhere along the line you’re making a judgment call about what a real person is, and they fall short. That’s fine, but we make that call and thousands or millions of “somethings” had to stop existing for it. Is that not the same call the ascians had to make?

@halcyontweeter @northgalis Like obviously they don't have a soul, but they could think and feel and form memories. Cahciua makes that pretty clear by existing. Maybe that's not life, but if you had asked me before FFXIV if something with 1/14 of a soul and 1% of a lifespan was a person, I would've said no

@halcyontweeter @northgalis That's what you believe, and the game supports it, but if the definition of personhood is dependent on the soul then every resident of Solution 9 was only 1/14th alive in the first place. It's obviously weighted to us drawing the conclusion, but the waters are intentionally muddy

@_exialupus @northgalis I know right? Like if the game *had* dwelled on it it probably would have been way too dark for some people. That's a lot of blood on our hands if we consider them alive at all.

@NickTheDM @northgalis kinda crazy that we basically killed like a million people and never really talked about it afterwards

@ComesAThought Yes, that's all true... is it relevant to what I said? To be clear, I don't think we made the wrong choice, and ours was a lot easier than Emet-selch's. They're not the same, just similar.

@NickTheDM @northgalis Regardless of how Emet-Selch views things, Etheirys eis destroyed. The Source and the reflections don't subsist out of leeching energy from an outside source like Living Memory does

@Melchirasha Talks like this aren't really made for a platform with a character limit though, so a lot of detail is going to get lost in the process.

@Melchirasha I mean I more fundamentally disagree that what Emet-Selch was doing was "Killing everyone" considering the end goal was resurrecting us as actual complete beings. It likely wouldn't have worked, and that's why he had to die, but we were part of the people he was trying to save.

@Melchirasha @northgalis Obviously the details are different, but the fundamental idea of "Ending thousands of lives to save your own people" is still there. The plot engineered it so we wouldn't even really consider not doing it, but that is still what happened.

@Melchirasha @northgalis The WoL is fundamentally the same character as in ShB and EW, obviously we haven't completely flipped our opinions on life and death, but this situation put us in the other side's shoes. Gives a different perspective. Its not the same, but it *should* let you see the similarity.

@Melchirasha @northgalis We don't kill them because we don't consider them alive, we did it for another goal, just like the ancients. But we don't feel *bad* about it because we don't consider them alive. Obviously turning them off was the "right" thing to do, but thats not really relevant to my point.

@NickTheDM @northgalis We don't kill the Endless because we don't consider them alive, we kill them because the alternative is continually feeding more souls into their batteries so they can live idyllic lives. The real difference is that the Ancients had a society and the Endless have a themepark.

@nihiliteaa Particularly worth your time if you care about: -Eorzean Religion and Superstition -Ishgardian/Sharlayan Politics -Lore on why the heck you’re using cards. -Watching side characters have an understated romance. If that all sounds like it sucks, then you wouldn’t be missing much
