The HRRR now goes out through 7pm Sunday with it's new 0z cycle. *Shows rain/mix at onset. *Changes to a lighter snow Sunday afternoon DC & North...accumulations struggle at this time. Lots of "white rain" with surface temps above freezing. *Does show pretty decent banding into Sunday night as the storm intensifies off the Delmarva coastline. Snow accumulations around DC ramp up at this time. *NOTE in the snowfall graphic...that is not a storm total as it is still snowing pretty widespread as the model reaches the end of it's cycle. It only forecasts out 48 hours. 0z NAM rolling in now will have all eyes. Then the 0z GFS, and EURO later tonight.

@MikeTFox5 Time for spring forward and spring time weather

New 18z GFS jumps west from it's 12z cycle but is at a similar position to where it was at 6z. (Showing those three cycles here) GFS snow totals for DCA continue to come back down to reality a bit. From 14" at 6z, to 11" at 12z, to about 8" now at 18z. Still note our position relative to the "comma head" heavy snow band on the NW flank of this low. That's where the heaviest bands typically are and that's modeled just to our east right now. Any fluctuations in that band locations can send forecast totals up or down. Also note area west of these heavy bands often have issues with dry slotting in the snow field. So that would keep some of our western zones looking at lower totals that needs to be accounted for in the forecast.

Setup for the weekend actually starts with an initial storm system in the Thursday-Friday period that brings us rain...but as it pushes north (paired with a Hudson Bay block) it will displace fresh cold air southward. How far south the cold gets will be key to the Sunday system.
