Retail Catering Production and Development Manager, Eddie Makuwaza and Retail Catering Assistant, Akhil Antony have progressed to the final of the NHS Chef of the Year 2025 contest, as Midlands champions. They impressed judges with their passion for delivering high-quality food.

Our Retail Catering team have set up a new project to grow their own cress for use in the restaurant at Leicester General. Senior Team Leader, Andy Berry, said: “Cress is not just for salads, it’s incredibly versatile, with a vibrant flavour and is 100 per cent good for you.”

Not only did our visiting chef demonstrate knife skills, the claw grip, discuss use of the correct colour chopping boards and the food probe, he also shared the breadth of his own experience and discussed job roles within the health and catering sector. Huge thanks @LearningUHL1

Today we hosted a visit from NHS University Hospital Leicester staff to talk to our Food and Nutrition students about apprenticeship opportunities in Hospitality and Catering. It was a great chance to ask questions about careers and entry requirements when planning for the future
