@Kirsten_Tanis1 @danielcoltun I watched a Hoge and Jahns video last year in which Adam said Cole had said to him that he preferred his new role, which was a better fit for him, than the Move TE (two years ago Cole was regularly on CHGO)

In 2023-2024 Kmet literally lead the entire NFL in catch rate % in the mid-80s. You don’t do that if you have a career drops problem. Were his drops up in 2025? Yes. Most notably in the Raiders game where he got his bell rung early in the game and had a very uncharacteristic poor game for him. He’s not going anywhere in 2026. Ben likes him & wants to further leverage all he learned in doing the heavy lifting inline & blocking which frees up Loveland to line up more in the slot and maximize his receiver potential. With Ben ramping up more & more 13 personnel & running half of his plays in 12 + 13, Kmet plays a critical role than Sam Roush alone can’t fill. He’s arguably the best TE2 in the NFL & that also doesn’t taken into account the locker room leadership he brings which is valued. One chart does not tell the whole story here. YPRR is important, but so is finding soft spots in zone & having positive EPA catches even if they aren’t the most explosive. Perhaps Roush is the future, but we aren’t there yet. And while Kmet is well paid it’s not at an expensive position & you have the other two TEs on rookie deals. Maybe it’s revisited in 2027, but I could also see a scenario where he plays out his current contract as-is.

I am starting to buy into the Chicago Bears drafting TE Sam Roush as the future TE2, a spot that’s integral in Ben Johnson’s offense. As a TE2: - Cole Kmet makes too much $ - Drops too many passes - Awful YPRR I believe targets are earned, leading to yards, not given.

Someone tell NFL IQ that Ryan Poles would never target Caleb Banks with that significant of an injury history. We’ve got 4 years of draft, trade & FA decisions that Poles is notorious for passing on any player with questionable medicals that impact their *long-term* durability outlook. (Yes, Loveland had a shoulder surgery but no impact to long-term durability & that’s exactly what proved out. He had a great rookie season) Multiple foot injuries on the same foot qualify as such for Banks. Poles is too conservative to ever have him on his draft list

@Kirsten_Tanis1 @Nate_Tice “Defenses might be getting faster and putting more DBs on the field, running is one way to beat it [Sam Roush] but also continuing to threaten over the top [Zavian Thomas] is the other way to create space” (altered to add our 3d round pics)

@Chicago_NFL Not entirely accurate, I think. But the question is, why not Deion burks, Malik benson, if looking for speed, or Chris bell or Skyler bell

Zavion Thomas was a concensus 7th round player drafted in the 3rd. Reminds me of their reach for the super-fast Rueben Hyppolite last year. #DaBears

Guys who had no idea who Zavion Thomas was 5 minutes ago are gonna hype up this pick But as someone who actually watches the college tape year-round, it’s tough for me to get hyped about this pick

I’m not surprised Poles/Ben went and got the best blocking TE in this draft. 13 personnel is a real trend & he is already running the 3rd highest rate of 12 personnel. Also ensures if Loveland or Kmet is injured/out for a game they can also still run all the 12 personnel plays & not have to cut back the playbook. Durham Smythe was not the best blocker so Roush is an upgrade and a huge target that’s like bringing down a tank for defenders when he catches the ball. Recall TE Darnell Washington of the Steelers & how hard he was to bring down this past season? Roush is almost 10 pounds heavier than he is. That could be advantageous on out routes to muscle for first downs with YAC, as an occasional option. I’ll trust Ben here. I also think this won’t be an unused 3rd round bust that Poles has had in past drafts. I do share everyone’s frustration of not addressing DL yet & just missing out on Jacas. That was a blow. Yet, I don’t think this is as out of left field as some do. I put him in some of my mocks at 89. It was earlier than he was projected in the 3rd/early 4th, but Ben must feel really strongly about his unique skill set. And intelligence as a Stanford guy as well. Plus several other teams were considering him, so if Ben felt there was a risk they’d lose him he wanted to get his guy.

I understand Brandon Beane TRADING BACK 3X last night, but I’m NOT in the camp that ‘Buffalo had a great 1st round’ They added VALUE. But you don’t build a roster on VALUE. You build it with TALENT. Beane & the #Bills now have the PICKS but he has to HIT with the PLAYERS. #BillsMafia #NFLDraft @BuffaloPlus

@DarrylConrad Kiran was a highly rated prospect on the Athletic and elsewhere. Fine to say he has busted so far but he was picked where expected.

Kiran was an injured prospect who played against stock brokers who was drafted because he was from Chicago. Max is a 2 year starter at a legit school who put on a show at the Senior Bowl. Simpler… Max can play football-Kiran cannot.
Jacob Infante@jacobinfante24

The same approach that got the #Bears Kiran Amegadjie in Round 3 of 2024 is what would get them Max Iheanachor in Round 1 of 2026. Kiran was toolsy, long and athletic coming out. Gifted prospect. But the Bears couldn’t afford to take a project OT, yet they did. In the right system, I believe Kiran absolutely could’ve developed into more than he’s been. But he landed in the wrong place at the wrong time. Similar with Iheanachor. I think he’s the superior prospect coming out, but he’s also quite raw and underdeveloped. Have to factor in a switch to LT with him, too. The Bears are not in a position to take a raw tackle at No. 25. Not when you have the defensive needs they have, as well as the solid value you’d get at those positions. Iheanachor is a pick you redshirt behind an older, talented starter for a year or two while you develop him. Chicago doesn’t have that. If they take a LT at No. 25 tomorrow, it should be one who could start right away. I’m not sold Iheanachor is the guy.
