The West African Internet Governance Forum is in Freetown, Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 this week. Yesterday I had the pleasure as serving as Mistress of Ceremonies for the Opening Ceremony and Moderating a panel on "Digital sovereignty and economic value in West Africa's integrated digital market". My takeaways: Digital sovereignty does not mean 'going it alone'. Collaboration, trust and investment is key for the ECOWAS region and Africa as a whole. We have enough regulations, agreements and conventions in the region. What we need now is IMPLEMENTATION. #WIAGF2026

This morning, in Geneva, we presented Sierra Leone’s human rights report to the UN Human Rights Council as part of the Universal Periodic Review process. In our country’s report, we presented in good faith the progress achieved since our last review in 2021, including important constitutional, legal, institutional, and policy reforms, as well as the challenges that remain and our ongoing efforts to address them. We addressed efforts made to strengthen human rights through protection of civil and political rights as well as investments in socio-economic rights. We affirmed Sierra Leone’s strong commitment to the full implementation of the Universal Periodic Review recommendations and to the continued strengthening of its human rights framework. The Government remains determined to build on the progress achieved, address remaining challenges, and advance a just, inclusive, and rights-based society grounded in dignity, equality, and the rule of law. We consider the UPR not only as a mechanism of accountability, but also as a valuable platform for shared learning, the exchange of best practices, and the strengthening of national human rights systems.

Guess what, my friends? My baby giant has officially turned 21 today. I call him my giant because from the very moment I gave birth to him, everything about him felt larger than life. His size, his presence, even the way he carried himself. Somehow, he always seemed older than his age, and over the years I made the mistake many parents make: I placed expectations on him that were too heavy for a child to carry. I sometimes forgot that behind the giant frame was still just a boy who needed patience, attention, and understanding. We don’t always survive each other, and we certainly don’t see eye to eye on politics. The boy somehow admires both Donald Trump and Julius Maada Bio, which tells you all you need to know about how exhausting our debates can be. Sometimes we barely survive family dinners. In fact, debating him is one of the most irritating experiences imaginable because somehow, by hook or by crook, he always wins. How? I genuinely do not know. And the annoying part is he doesn’t even fit the typical “intellectual” mould. Yet whether it’s golf, poker, fishing, arguments, or just life in general, he has this frustrating habit of coming out on top. Although he has tested my patience for 21 years, these days I no longer worry about him the way I used to. Because one thing I have learned is this: by hook or by crook, at his own pace and in his own style, he is going to make it. Happy 21st birthday to my baby giant. Keep winning even when you’re unbearable about it. Love you always Jason Michael of Tottenham Spurs.

Good morning, afternoon, evening friends! This is a bit of a late post as I am resurfacing after a bit of a hiatus. #CSW70 at the #UN this year was a bit surreal. All of a sudden ideas, negotiations, terms that have been "settled language" in the global community for years have become contentious. What a time. Anyway, this year at CSW, it was my pleasure to provide my services as a Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs, Republic of Sierra Leone. At the same time, in my personal capacity I was invited to lend my voice to a critical discussion on intergenerational approaches to access to justice. This side event was organized by UN Women, UNFPA, HelpAge International, and the Governments of Ireland, and Sweden on the 13th March. I was asked to opine on "how communities and justice systems work together to challenge harmful and discriminatory norms without causing backlash?", with a focus on Sierra Leone, so I did.🙂 #CSW70

Happy International Women's Day, Nicky.🙂 For once, celebrate yourself. Well done mama, daughter, aunty, sister, friend! You've had quite the journey so far, but guuurrrlll, you are glowing and grateful! To God be the glory! We good! Anddd...it was a pleasure and honor to both participate in and serve as a facilitator at the Women's Dialogue convened by the Honorable Vice-President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs. Throughout his keynote address, our VP talked about "women's agency" and my feminist heart was surely happy about that. Thank you VP and Minister Dr. Isata Mahoi, with special kudos to the team of Dr Yakama Manty Jones and Binta Jalloh. #IWD2026
