Ugg... why did they do this?? Another tweet says Pfizer is 30. I would really like to get 2 Novavax instead please.

@DrEricDing The first Moderna shots were 100 µg for Wuhan-Hu-1. This one is 25 µg for BA.5. Though Bancel is kind enough to throw in a free 25 µg of 2019-vintage Wuhan-Hu-1 in the same shot. This is the booster you were waiting for?

And in the biggest shocker of any VRBPAC I've seen, Novavax showed up. We're used to them not being invited to the party. And not only did they show up, they actually presented new data on Omicron including BA1 BA2 and BA5. And it was very impressive data too h/t @doctorvasan

Incoming—CDC vaccine advisers expected to vote Thursday on updated #BA5 variant boosters. New shots likely available within days. This is the booster I’m waiting for.

@robinsoped101 @DrEricDing Novavax reported a partnership to manufacture doses of Omicron shots, but nothing beyond that.
Any Omicron vaccine should ideally be two shots, but they're being used as single-shots (with infection being the second exposure) or as "boosters" (for people already infected).

@ScottVMeyers @withaC31 @DrEricDing For one, there are no immunonaive people in the US who have avoided all infections AND avoided all vaccines.
Secondly, even if a hypothetical group of very careful, always-masking antivaxxers does exist, they're still not eligible for this vaccine to be their first exposure.

@yogi_77 @DrEricDing I'd rather have an updated Astrazeneca than a Moderna shot from 3 years ago, but unfortunately both companies decided to lie about their capabilities (updates, manufacturing, distribution) leaving us in this situation.

@NickytaLeb @DrEricDing Atleast you have access to Moderna there. Here in India 80.5 million 65+ elderly would have benefited from org Moderna rather than Oxford-Astrazeneca they got. Simply denied acess to superior vaccines in pandemic. How about that?

@withaC31 @DrEricDing Moderna made their (original strain) 3rd shot boosters 50 µg & one could have expected their new shots to be 50 µg of Omicron strain. The fact that they cut the reduced-dose shots to be half Omicron is not explained.
Pfizer still 30, but also cut in half with unwanted 2019-WT.

The best time to start making a BA.2 vaccine was when BA.2 was declared a variant of concern on the 26th of November 2021.
The 2nd best time was literally any time in 2022.
The 3rd best time is when governments asked for BA.5 shots.
The 4th best time is still now, for BA.2.75.
