Well, this one wasn't on the agenda! Whilst failing to find any Black Terns this afternoon, a White-fronted Goose appeared in front of me at Killingworth Lake. Very much out of context in late April, and appears to be a site first. Talk about expecting the unexpected!

We are now a week away from my estimate of when hatching is most likely to start: Tuesday, 28th April. In reality, there is an uncertainty of plus or minus two days on this estimate, so any date between Sunday 26th and Wednesday, 30th would not be unusual.

Not quite the Spring migrant we were expecting. The ringing team alerted us to some serious SBBOT patch gold, our first Marsh Tit in 30 years!
