I feel like what a lot of people miss about British heat is the humidity levels averaging around 70%, and the real danger being indoors weirdly. A lot of the architecture is older designed for cold weather so it’s made to insulate heat, which is antithetical to rising temps over the last few decades, and the windows are generally ones that swing outwards instead of raising horizontally, so getting an ac window unit just isn’t an option in most buildings so there’s no real place to get away from the heat. As an American from the south where it also gets dick hot, I’ve spent a summer in the UK and while I personally found it manageable that doesn’t make it not a real issue for the folk there imo
