I'm convinced India will never be able to compete with the US and China in technology if we keep treating it as a spectacle. A bunch of influential folks are organising, Asia’s “largest AI event” in Mumbai later this month, and the speaker lineup has Bollywood celebrities, cricketers, and YouTube influencers. These are people who haven't written a single line of code in their lives. A country doesn't become a technology leader through celebrity endorsements or political speeches. India will never be a technology powerhouse if we parade technology as an accessory. Real AI innovation doesn’t come from celebrity panels—it comes from builders. PhDs, engineers, founders—people who write code, build models, and deploy systems at scale. The US and China didn’t lead in AI because of influencer summits. They did it through university labs, open-source contributions, and startup founders building from first principles. We need to build an ecosystem to listen and learn from builders. Technology isn’t a spectator sport. If India wants to lead, we must put real builders at the center of the conversation.

Brings me back to the time where I was asked to do a “VC 101” course as a part of job training. Absolute waste of time. VC’s have a core on the job learning (atleast for early stage roles). It just takes one complete deal for you to get familiar with most the jargons/nuances.

VC Fellowships Are Bullshit. I just saw two back-to-back LinkedIn posts about new VC fellowship cohorts, and I need to call this out. These programs keep growing without delivering real value. Here's the fundamental problem: The numbers don't add up. Through our VC job board, we see only 30-40 entry-level jobs open each quarter. Half of these are at larger funds who prefer candidates with prior VC experience. Most hiring happens through referrals anyway. Meanwhile, these fellowship cohorts are pumping out 100+ people every quarter – and that number keeps growing. The content is misaligned too. These fellowships spend so much time on financial modeling and term sheets, yet 80% of entry-level VC jobs are in early-stage firms where that knowledge is occasionally used. The atomic unit of VC is startups, and generating alpha returns comes from adding value to them. None of these programs focus on that. Fellowships should publish their placement numbers. Show us who actually broke into VC from your cohort, not just your speaker list. For those just looking to understand VC jargon: Save your money and try Techstars Venture Deals. It's free and taught by industry veterans. And to the speakers: If you can't offer roles or internships to cohort members, think twice about participating. People are paying to access your network and knowledge. That comes with a moral responsibility.

was checking out gruhas, a vc firm by nikhil kamath and abhijeet pai. started with a case study on "can genai solve legal delays" but ended up reading more about their investment sectors as well (it's mostly proptech & cleantech) what caught my eye though? no female team member in the org as per linkedin, out of maybe 12 people. small teamsure, but still 😞 got me curious about women's representation in vc funds. i'll dig into it online, but if i find nothing, i'll check out bigger companies to see how they're doing with women in decision-making roles. tech is improving, but women often get left behind in these spaces i feel 😐
