Context. Bybit was recently hacked on February 21, 2025, with attackers stealing about 401,347 ETH (worth around $1.5 billion). The hack occurred through a phishing attack targeting Bybit's cold wallet, deceiving wallet signers into approving the transaction. In response, Bybit's CEO assured customers that the exchange had enough assets to cover the losses and that affected users would be reimbursed. The incident caused Ethereum's price to drop by 4%, and Bybit is working with cybersecurity experts to strengthen its security.
