Confusing the actress aside it's genuinely weird that people are OK by seeing people in a movie get brutally killed even crack jokes about it but the moment a dog or a cat gets killed it's instant anger.

“The Godfather”, “Jaws” and “The Shining” are three of the best movies ever made. Hell, you could argue they are three best movies ever made.
They each significantly change and heavily rework their own beloved and successful source material.
Because that is what adaptations do.

This is how adaptation works. This is how adaptation has always worked. Anybody with any understanding of the arts and history understands this.
But we live in an age of dumb, angry and (occasionally even literally) illiterate shouting idiots with no grasp of culture or history.

It actually surprises me that this doesn't happen more often. Studios have a lot of killer scripts in their archives that never got made for reasons that have nothing to do with quality. They should do more exploring of what they already own.

Thinking about how even just fixing the opening credits to what they should look like and adding back in the prologue bit of comatose Freddy dying would do so much to add back in some atmosphere and intrigue to the movie.
