With a sharp rise in electoral success, #populist parties—both on the far-left and far-right—are now at the forefront of debates on EU policies and national #sovereignty. The European Center for Populism Studies’ (ECPS) latest #report on the 2024 European Parliament elections offers a comprehensive look at how populist forces are influencing the political landscape of Europe. This election cycle has marked a significant shift: 60 populist parties across 26 #EU member states gained seats, compared to 40 parties in 22 countries in 2019. Overall, populists secured 263 of the 720 seats in the European Parliament, a clear signal of their growing appeal. While populist right-wing groups captured most of this success, left-wing and centrist populist parties have also strengthened their influence, though fragmented across various groups in the #EU Parliament.
