It was an honour to serve on the @UNESCO jury awarding Palestinian journalists covering Gaza with the #PressFreedomPrize The almost unfathomable sacrifices made by journalists in Gaza, have served to ensure the world cannot say it did not know.

The RSF did not respond to our request for comment. We also shared our findings with the UN’s Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, who said the evidence of forced enlistment we uncovered in #Sudan is tantamount to “contemporary slavery”.

Also, of course the civilian “emergency committees” and the rest of the civil society infrastructure people in Sudan are managing to maintain in the face of hunger, threats and the world’s indifference.

The RSF obstructs communication networks, threatens and targets journalists, activists and the civilian “revolutionary committees” keeping their neighbourhoods safe. So we cannot name our extraordinarily brave Sudan team but they were integral to this piece.

The Israeli government agency COGAT responded to us only after publication. Stating, “dual use” items into Gaza are not “sweepingly denied entry”. “Rather,” they claim, ”these are subject to security evaluation due to the concern that the Hamas-ISIS terrorist organization will use them for its terrorist purposes, including further harm to non-combatants.”
