#DEVCommunity I'm mid 30's and have been working as a Infrastucture and Cloud Architect for >10 years. I've always had a dream of working as a dev - how have others dealt with working up from the bottom (pay and seniority wise) when changing careers?

@OldJvscrptGuy @jrdev_ That's awesome - how did you learn and then find a job? I'm always concerned about the pay cut I'd have to deal with having a family to look after, is that something you had to manage?

@jrdev_ I was 56 when I got my first job as a React Dev. It's never too late.

"Am I too old to become a developer?" It took me 18 months from when I started learning to get my first job. I've asked a few people and it seems to take people on average 1-3 years. So, no, if you are 30, 40 or 50 years old, you are not too old to become a dev.

@jrdev_ I'm 37 with a family, biggest barrier for me is to start from the bottom pay-wise, I'm a cloud architect so have some useful skills (infra/security etc.) - how have other people managed income when transitioning to a dev job?
