The mall issued a statement to Atlanta News First; which the family responded to and refuted. The mall branded the incident a “misunderstanding” saying: “This was a deeply unfortunate situation, and we regret our poor communication that led to this misunderstanding. We have reached out to Mr. Crump and welcome his family to return to our shopping center.” The father hit back at the malls statement telling the news outlet: “This was not a misunderstanding. So, we don’t have any desire to return to the mall. We have no plans on doing that.” The boys father, Demond Crump told the outlet that the General Manager called and apologized earlier in the day, inviting them back. “Now, all of a sudden, you want to make amends. Doesn’t work that way.” In the phone call apologizing, the general manager claimed he asked the son to leave due to a safety issue and was willing to relocate them to a different space in the mall. The Crump family are now letting their attorney handle the next steps. Source: Atlanta News First

Distressed father appears emotional after revealing the General Manager of Cumberland Mall in Atlanta told him his wheelchair bound son with cerebral palsy had to leave the mall. “You had the general manager of the mall tell us that my son cannot be in the mall with us this weekend. He’s a part of our company. He’s my son and my family. I find that to be very discriminatory.” The father, who is the CEO of sanitary company Reign Pads, appeared on the verge of tears as he revealed his son who was working as an employee at his vendor stall inside the mall was told to leave by the malls manager. “If my son cannot stay. Then we cannot stay. We leaving the mall.”
