📌 Mugaba Palace Reopening As Ankole’s #MugabaPalace reopens to the public for visitation, I take the opportunity to thank the @GovUganda and other development partners for funding the reconstruction & rehabilitation of this heritage site that is a huge pride for #Ankole, through @MTWAUganda and the @ugandamuseums and Monuments department. Before traditional monarchies adopted a more cordial relationship, the main house of the palace - constructed by King Charles Godfrey #Gatsyonga II and opened in 1954 - was revered as the only Palace in the country to have hosted three kings at once when the Omukama of @ObukamaBwaTooro and the Kabaka of @BugandaKingdom_ visited #Omugabe Gatsyonga in 1958 in Kamukuzi. Today, these bits and pieces of the Ankole heritage - both tangible and intangible - get to be preserved and exhibited in a safer, more deserving structure that had lain in ruins for decades after the #abolition of Uganda’s Kingdoms in 1967. While Ankole as a Kingdom didn’t survive the wrath of #Obote’s ‘Republican Constitution’, her traditional heritage lives on loud and resilient in the numerous practices, beliefs and possessions that are ever-so-dear to the Banyankole - contributing immensely to the nation’s diverse cultural heritage. #ExploreAnkole #ExploreUganda
