Today marks one year since Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, two Israeli Embassy staff members, were murdered in a terror attack in Washington, D.C. Two bright young souls, dreaming of a future together and dedicating their lives to making a difference. We will never forget their love. We will never forget their dedication. We will never forget their light. May their memories forever be a blessing.

It’s been a year without Yaron. A year of grief, of disbelief, of anger. A year of sorrow, of memories, and of thoughts of what could have been. A year of imagined conversations, of moments he should have been in, of feeling daily the profound absence Yaron left behind.

Many countries are seeking to understand how to address climate challenges and turn environmental constraints into opportunities. The question that comes up again and again is how to turn a desert into a green space, and the Israeli answer is clear: we don’t wait for change, we create it.

The UNODC emergency first responder toolkit project was inspired by research undertaken by Professor Yifat Bitton and the RAIA Project based on lessons learned from the Oct. 7th 2023 massacre, which serves as an important case study for this undertaking.

Some days remind me why multilateral diplomacy can still matter. Today in Vienna, Israel (@ILMissionVienna) worked with two UN bodies- United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (@UNODC), sharing our experience through a new toolkit for first responders addressing sexual violence in terrorism-related incidents; and at United Nations Industrial Development Organization (@UNIDO), launching a project with MASHAV to support Liberia’s new Food Authority. Two very different rooms, one clear message: Israel is not only here to speak. We are here to contribute. In Hebrew we call it #TikonOlam, making the better one step at a time.
