Consistency beats intensity almost every time. A perfect week followed by a month of nothing loses to a mediocre effort repeated daily. The gap between where you are and where you want to be isn’t crossed in one big leap but it’s crossed by not skipping twice in a row. The trick is lowering the bar on hard days. You don’t need your best effort every day but you need an effort every day. Show up tired, show up unmotivated, show up with 20% energy just show up. Momentum is fragile in the beginning and forgiving later, so the early days matter more than they feel like they should. Track the streak, not the size. A five minute version of the habit still counts. It keeps the identity alive: “I’m someone who does this,” not “I’m someone who does this when it’s convenient.” That identity is what carries you through the weeks when motivation disappears entirely and it always does. Discipline isn’t about feeling ready. It’s about doing it anyway. Be guided.
