No Stage For Abusers

Crucial questions we must ask Russel Brand (@rustyrockets) after his statements in his interview with @megynkelly about sexually exploiting a 16 year old girl. 1. How can sex be both ‘consensual’ and ‘exploitative’? 2. How did you check the child you had ‘consensual sex’ with was 16? 3. How did you check if it was consensual throughout? 4. Did the girl have capacity to consent? E.g. was she not under the influence of drugs or alcohol? 5. In which jurisdiction did this take place? 6. What were the laws surrounding (statutory) rape and consent there at the time (approx. 2005)? And lastly: How can we improve societal views and legislation regarding abuse of power and consent and protect vulnerable children and young people? Too many girls and young women have been sexually abused and exploited by men, particularly in the music and wider entertainment industry. #NoAbusersOnStage

The @ukhomeoffice can withdraw an ETA for antisemitism, but would they have taken the same action due to @kanyewest’s sexism, misogyny or sexual violence towards women? theguardian.com/music/2026/apr… This seems unlikely. Last year Chris Brown was allowed to enter despite being previously convicted for domestic violence and @smokeyrobinson was allowed to enter the UK even though numerous women had just sued him for sexual assault. These are just two men who have abused women the Home Office let into the UK to perform in front of thousands.
