@A1an_M Power and ability do not always go hand in hand. The former may arise from being pushy/ambitious or being willing to work within the framework set by those behind the power. People with ability may not be willing or able to work within those parameters.

I'm always a bit suspicious about people who are suddenly thrust to prominence in politics. People who rise without trace. Like Emmanuel Macron, Rishi Sunak, Zia Yusuf. People who didn't get to the top via the normal slog of being a councillor, failed candidate multiple times , then elected, then backbench MP, junior cabinet role, senior cabinet role, then finally, party leader. People who suddenly appeared from the world of investment banking and miraculously acquired a safe seat and then became Chancellor and Prime Minister in short order - for example. As if they had been "chosen". So I'm particularly interested in this fella. Why has he suddenly shot to prominence? What purpose is he serving? Who gains if he is successful? And he's got a background as a hypnotist and as an actor. What part is he playing here? Who is he trying to hypnotise, and why? Nothing much happens by accident in the media and politics. So this is someone to watch closely. Just don't look into his eyes too much.😵‍💫

Seeing the real intention behind all "Raise the colours" flags on the A259 unfurl as Peacehaven mosque is firebombed. Burning a mosque is terrorism, full stop. If leaders can swiftly condemn a synagogue attack, they must do the same here. theargus.co.uk/news/25518203.…

The horrendous arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven East Sussex was shocking and should be condemned. But isn’t it a little suspicious?.. Peacehaven.. near Brighton.. hardly a “far right” enclave, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the culprits turn out to be radical leftist greens!.. whoever they are I hope they are caught and punished.

I had to leave the Green Party Conference early today to visit the mosque that was firebombed in Peacehaven. It's times like this we've got to come together as a community to stamp out hate and those thay seek to divide us.

@silkiecarlo We ran nine peaceful protests in 2023 against Home Office proposals with no local dialogue. It took 20 months. We WON. We also fed into and attended this Inquiry following which the head of the Home Office stepped down. Protests work. Nigel Jacklin committees.parliament.uk/committee/127/…

For Starmer’s govt to mount this new attack, when thousands on the right + left are exercising their freedom to protest, appears like a cynical attempt to suppress dissent. Successive govts are trying every trick in the book to limit our right to protest bbc.com/news/articles/…

Reports today of an attack on a mosque in Peacehaven are deeply concerning. I am being kept up-to-date by law enforcement. An investigation is ongoing, but it seems clear that things could easily have been far worse. I thank the emergency services for their swift response at the scene. And I ask anyone with any information to come forward to the police. At a time like this, we must stand united. This country's greatest strength has been its ability to build one nation from many communities. Attacks against Britain's Muslims are attacks against all Britons and this country itself.

This Tower Hamlets motion says everything about how far common sense has fallen. Labour, backed by Aspire, will vote to brand ordinary mothers and grandmothers as extremists. The motion names the Pink Ladies, a grassroots group of women demanding safer streets for girls, and the Raise the Colours campaign, which encouraged people to fly the Union Flag, as "far right." Pause on that: mums worried about assaults, neighbours putting out the national flag, reclassified as a threat. This is how language is weaponised when a political class runs out of answers. For years councils and governments looked away as grooming gangs operated, as crime hollowed out neighbourhoods, as hotels were stuffed with unvetted arrivals without warning to locals. Those who spoke up were ignored or shamed. Now the anger is too large to silence, so the tactic changes: turn the mirror. Take the public's fear - born of their own failures - and throw it back at them as hate. It is dishonest and dangerous. The mothers of Tower Hamlets and beyond didn't create unsafe streets; they walk them. They didn't invite in extremism; they're trying to shield their daughters from it. But Labour and its allies cannot face their own record, so they recast concern for safety as bigotry, and pride in the flag as menace. They speak the language of "standing up to fascism" while refusing to stand up to the actual intimidation and antisemitism now parading in British cities. This matters far beyond one borough. Once "far right" meant something. It meant genuine racial hatred and violence. Now it is stretched to cover anyone who asks for border control, safe streets, or the right to fly the St George's Cross without apology. If that sleight of hand succeeds, honest dissent dies; the people most harmed by failure are pushed outside the debate and the failures deepen. Britain's choice is whether to keep accepting this game. Either we let those who left towns unsafe and silenced victims decide who is respectable and who is beyond the pale, or we call the bluff. We say: protecting women and children is not extremism. Pride in country is not hate. The words "far right" will not be used as a club to crush legitimate anger. Tower Hamlets is a warning. If ordinary people can be labelled dangerous for demanding safety and belonging, the country itself is in danger - not from mythical Nazis lurking under every bed, but from a political culture that would rather stigmatise its own citizens than face what it's done. "The mothers of Tower Hamlets and beyond didn't create unsafe streets; they walk them. They didn't invite in extremism; they're trying to shield their daughters from it."

The right to protest must be protected. But repeated large protests are leaving communities feeling unsafe. This cannot continue. Police will have new powers to instruct organisers to hold events elsewhere or risk arrest - protecting communities and police resources.
