Between 2023 and 2024, Russia sent 25,000 metric tons of free wheat to Burkina Faso and signed an agreement to build a nuclear power plant for the emerging economic powerhouse in the Sahel, and to provide a personal security detail for Capt. Ibrahim Traoré. And there was also the promise of 100 Russian paramilitary fighters for Burkina Faso. Sure enough, the contingent of Russian military personnel arrived with weapons and equipment in the capital, Ouagadougou, on January 24, 2024. The deployment was announced on the Telegram messaging app’s Africa Corps channel, which indicated it was affiliated with Russia’s Defense Ministry. Africa Corpse is a re-invented version of the Wagner PMC Group. Typically, a Russian contingent of 100 paramilitary fighters would ensure the safety of the country’s leader, Ibrahim Traoré, and the Burkinabe people from terrorist attacks,” the Telegram channel’s statement read. “In the near future, the units will be replenished with another 200 military personnel from Russia.” The “military specialists” will train Burkinabe forces and patrol dangerous areas, according to a statement on Telegram by The Africa Initiative, a pro-Russia news agency. Everything seemed to be going according to the agreements, until the west pushed Ukraine to invade the Kursk Oblast, a region inside the Russian Federation, on August 6, 2024. It was a daring move intended to distract Russian forces who were gaining ground in Donbas, the Eastern part of Ukraine, according to media reports. But what the media didn’t report was that this calculated distraction was targeted at the Sahel region where Russia had sent fighters to protect the emerging heroes of African liberation - Traore, Tchiani and Goita. And it was not long before Russia pulled forces from Burkina Faso back to Kursk to defend the homeland along with North Korean volunteers who fought on the side of the Russians. Yes, not all the Russian personnel were withdrawn from Burkina Faso to Kursk but the number reduced drastically. The good news is that Russia never left Traore or anyone of our heroes vulnerable and without adequate protection. And keep in mind that a lot of Burkinabe forces had already been trained, in addition to their own topicalized combat experience. Today, the Kursk region of Russia has been completely liberated and the security agreement Russia signed with Burkina Faso and the Sahel states, still stands. Nothing whatsoever has changed. In fact, Traore has been personally invited to attend the Victory Day parade in Moscow on May 9, 2025 and he accepted to be there. We’ll see what happens when he returns from that trip. Africa’s redemption is upon us right now. Count yourself privileged to be alive at this historic moment. And never stop thanking God for the gift of Vladimir Putin. God kept him alive for such a time as this. Long live motherland, Africa 💪
