@Nerdcognito 5e (2014) was quite reasonable to run an old-school style and quite a few people ran old-school style games with it. 5.5 took all that options away.

The pop gaming media is now saying Classic Gaming and the OSR are the opposite of what old school D&D used to stand for & they are holding the hobby back. This shows how far modern critics have gone to attack authentic classic roots and float calling 5e "Old School." Pathetic.

Taiwan gets stuff like this, meanwhile all we get in the US is shitty rapper collabs and K-Pop Demon Hunters.

@OGCrimsonJester The bloat of subclasses is one of my major issues with 5e. You only need a few generic ones IMHO. I still hate how 5.5 added the psionic ones to the PHB when they don't fit at all.

I see a kick starter suggesting 26 new sub classes for 5E ECT ..... All I can think is, I'm out. No thanks. Less is more.

Last night's C&C session was simple but effective: The party's nemesis, Quagmire the Troll Lord, ambushed a village patrol, leaving but a single survivor. The PCs followed the survivor's directions and entered the Dog Wood, navigating the thick trees and winding paths. They fought off two giant wolves (worgs) devouring the bodies of the slain patrol, met a sprite named Tew, and finally met the Troll Lord, who taunted them before sending two Ogres to smash them. The Druid, played by my wife, used an Entangle spell to snare the ogres (and some of the party) and the party managed to slay the beasts.

@memeslich There's deadly and there's "disposable heroes" which is just lame.

@WHEATNINJA06 @Nerdcognito 5e does a ton of shit way better than the oldschool, and some stuff a lot worse. Playing more old-school has made me appreciate the new stuff a lot more (although it's far from perfect)

@Nerdcognito 5e is by far the most popular and best selling edition of D&D. It's also got the most streamlined rules system. There's no contest.

It came from Reddit, X edition: Modern converts shared that AD&D gave them the absolute best RPG night of their lives. Classic rules and old school play delivered what modern TTRPGs keep failing to provide. How long until the Reddit mods take this down? 😆😆😆

How many of you would be interested in seeing an actual play show of every old school D&D module ever made? We are talking about a multi season, multigenerational campaign, possibly using multiple rule sets as well.

@NoReferences The best part of this comes right after, when they jump each other and start fighting, and the others start chanting "ECW! ECW!"

@vampsob If they weren't afraid of competing with their own game, a darker M-rated true Diablo MMO would be amazing.

The hot thing of the week seems to be ranking the editions of D&D. Here's the thing, a lot of folks are splitting the baby by doing things like separating "2e at launch" from "2e in 1999". Is this a cop out?
