It’s the ultimate sacrifice from a guy who cared way more about peace than a golden chair. They actually were in Game of Thrones, just playing the game quietly from the background. Margaery Tyrell’s mother is Alerie Hightower, and the legendary Kingsguard who died at the Tower of Joy was Ser Gerold Hightower. After the Dance of the Dragons, they realized being the front-row villain was just a death sentence. They went back to being quiet, filthy rich and ruling Oldtown behind the scenes while letting the Tyrells take all the heat.

They actually don't survive it on human biology alone, their magic-infused bloodlines physically adapt to the thin air. This isn't even a hot take, it's just dead wrong if you look at how he actually won the Stepstones. Caraxes didn't bail him out, Daemon on foot literally ran onto the beach as a bait just to draw the Triarchy out of their caves. ​The real difference is his sheer, unhinged ground combat and total disregard for his own life. Armed with Dark Sister and a willingness to fight in the mud, he built a psychological edge that made him the most feared commander in Westeros with or without a dragon.
