One of my absolute top tips for texturing characters and creatures is to get the disp/normal map right first before you do color and roughness. Can be done in sculpting or texturing. A good detail map will serve you incredibly well and speeds up the texturing significantly and the result will look better too.

Some people asked me how I composited my luffy shot. So I figured I would post the explanation here as well, in case it can be useful to someone. The first two images are Before and After. The third is the node stup in davinci resolve with explanations.
