#PILG2024 It so important to ensure that we are start to seek professional skills to aid us in dealing with Mental Health. There must also be organizational will to make sure that employees are healthy and able to discuss issues where they are struggling.

PILG2024 When we look for solutions, we must be aware that there isn’t one single thing that will fix the issue. Well-being and support for mental health looks different for different people, we have differing needs and organisations must start to delve into what wellness means.

#PILG2024 When we talk about a lack of boundaries, there are multiple issues that influence this. Expectations from Family, historical standard of work in the sector. How do we start to reasses these factors, and make sure we are not heading to severe burn out.

#PILG2024 In all this urgency, when do we say no? When do stop over extending ourselves for the cause? And is that allowed? What about the Stigma that forces us to keep working and not speak out about struggling?

#PILG2024 As practioners in the space, we cannot remove ourselves from the work we do. There are personal stories and experiences that interact with the work that we do. And we need to start to ask, how we own this on an individual level. Before our organisations intervene.

#PILG2024 We need to be honest about how women who have had children have greater external factors that are related to physiological changes after child birth. We must not attach punitive measures on individuals for their struggles.

#PILG2024 The nature of our work is that it is always urgent. But at the same time, we have families, we are care givers, we have to pay black tax. Unfortunately we are not machines and we do not lead single issue lives.

PILG2024 The Gender dynamics are also a huge part mental health. As women, esp women of color we are often attacked for the work that we do. The work itself is extremely stressful, and we have to still manage society’s expectations.

#PILG2024 Empathy and compassion come at a cost. We need to acknowledge that it’s a difficult place to be to be a human rights defender.

#PILG2024 Transference trauma is a difficult thing to reflect on, we don’t have the luxury to tell patients we can’t listen to their trauma. That really affects the way in which we interact with our clients and law process.
