The Jackal has created a genetic virus that makes those infected susceptible to mind control/possession.
•It can jump between the bodies of anyone infected.
• Your ultimate goal is to completely merge with a powerful host body, as your own body is dying. He wants to save himself, but also become much more powerful.
• Jackal makes a deal with Tombstone to help him gain control of the Hand. The Hand is looking for a new leader.
Jackal uses his possession skills to make them believe that The Beast of their ancient myths has returned and is searching for a suitable body to lead them.
• Jean Gray's powers have only recently manifested, and in a world without Xavier, she has been on the run.
Frank helps her meet with William Metzger, who claims that the DOD has developed a technology that can suppress mutant powers. This is based on the technology Bruce Banner created to suppress the Hulk.
• Jean is locked in a DODC facility because William believes that the strange possessions and seemingly supernatural events occurring must be caused by a psychic mutant like Jean Grey.
There is no Tree-Man or Gray Hulk.
• The Punisher is briefly possessed, but Jean is able to expel him from him. Jean's mind is too strong for the Jackal to penetrate, so she is safe.
Jackal also later possesses Bruce Banner, but Jean manages to remove the bracelet from his wrist. With Bruce out of control, the Hulk comes out completely and unleashes himself on a rampage.
Jackal tries to possess Peter, but to his surprise he also fails to do so. The virus is in his body, but it is not allowing Jackal any control. It begins to mutate within Peter and grants him organic webs, increased strength, heightened senses and spider sense, etc.
The Hand wants Peter to host the Beast, so they pressure Jackal to figure out a way to control him. Jackal suggests that if Peter were weakened, he might be more susceptible to control.
• The jackal controls Peter and introduces him to the Hand as a new leader for them. They plan to kill and resurrect Peter to fully establish him as one of them.
• It turns out that Jean and Peter had a plan from the beginning for this, and Jean is able to suppress Jackal, trapping him inside Peter so he can't jump from melee anymore.
• Spidey regains all his power and repels the Hand. Jean, Frank and Daredevil come to help him.
Tombstone had a kind of safety switch for the Jackal virus all the time, which activates it. Peter reverts to a weakened form and is dying.
• Jean still senses Jackal/Carrion in him, so Peter decides to let him die so the possessor can die with him.
He goes and confesses everything to MJ. Then he goes to Aunt May's grave and sits down to die.
