Some thoughts about Arsenal’s “style” and struggles in attack I can forgive the team for not being free-flowing and creative in the final third a lot of the time because teams OOP are harder to breakdown than I’ve personally ever seen. I want more bravery, and central football, but I can still acknowledge the difficulties But I feel like we have the perfect antidote to this - our press. We create so many openings by winning the ball high and forcing errors And yet we do absolutely fuck all with it. I honestly think we’re pound for pound the WORST team in transition in the league and have been for years But I also think it has a negative effect on our press too. Because imagine the extra 5% you have pressing a player feeling confident that if you win this ball you’re going to hurt the opposition We must feel so deflated every time a high turnover amounts to absolutely nothing So you then don’t press with the same intensity the second time, third time, etc Klopp’s Liverpool were relentless but why were they? Maybe cos they were tactically better at it. Maybe cos they had better engines in that midfield. But I’d guess it’s because they just loved doing it, and it fuelled the players because there was always a sense of “we’re three passes from a goal here if we win this tackle”
