Millions of Sudanese particularly in the hardest-hit areas such as North Darfur and South Kordofan are surviving on just one meal a day, while many go entire days without food, forcing some to resort to eating leaves and animal fodder to stay alive. - As the war enters its third year, around 28.9 million people or 61.1% of Sudan’s population are experiencing acute food insecurity. - Despite denials by the Sudanese government and the Rapid Support Forces, the United Nations and global monitoring groups have confirmed the spread of famine in several areas, including El Fasher, Kadugli, Um Barro, and Karnoi raising concerns over the use of starvation as a weapon of war. - Women and girls are the most affected, facing heightened risks of sexual violence and harassment while searching for food and water. Households led by women are three times more likely to experience food insecurity than those headed by men. - Community kitchens and charitable initiatives are increasingly unable to meet rising needs, as sharp funding cuts from donors and international aid agencies further strain the humanitarian response.
