It’s been ages since I contributed to #FindsFriday. Here’s the finds display I put together for the @ACarchaeology staff training and seminar day today.

#Medieval floor tiles in the Exchequer Chamber at #Exeter Cathedral. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to see this near complete in-situ pavement dating from c. 1280-1300 earlier this week.

This nearly complete samian Ritterling 1 dish, dating from c. AD60, was found in a #Roman ditch at Filham near Ivybridge, Devon. The potter is Carbo of La Graufesenque in S Gaul. It’s an early form and being nearly whole it is exceptional. What was it doing there?! #FindsFriday

@Brittunculus410 Fairly - it was found during the recent excavation in Exeter Cathedral cloister.

@Noonarino Can I ask if this a new find? (I have a particular interest in Isca as I live there.)

I think this is a London 555 amphora handle, due to the deep vertical groove and Gauloise-esque fabric. Fairly unusual but not unknown in #Exeter. Date range c. AD 55-130 but probably 55-75 in this case as found within the footprint of the legionary fortress #RomanPottery

I was pleased to match up this lady with drapery with a sherd from Corbridge in Stanfield and Simpson. This decorated bowl was made at Les Martres-de-Veyre in Central Gaul in c. AD 100-125 #RomanPottery #Samian #FindFriday

@Noonarino So Flod found this! Didn’t know it had disappeared.

It’s 50 years almost to the day since the discovery and loss of the #Exeter #Roman Venus. Found by John Salvatore in a Roman well in a South St basement (now part of the Guildhall shopping centre), it disappeared from a display at Rougement House a few days later #FindsFriday

If it were to turn up, no questions would be asked!

Luckily I opened the book on the right page and found this #Roman Terra Nigra Cam 58 cup right away - I’ve only seen TN platters before so it wasn’t immediately obvious (but will be next time). Date range c. AD 50-75 #FindsFriday

There is a wonderful collection of Delft tiles at Lamb House, #Rye, in the care of @nationaltrust. These weren’t original to the property but were installed by #HenryJames when he lived here in the early 20th century #TilesOnTuesday
