I grew up in Wagga Wagga where the kids growing up used to play a game called "Red Rover Cross Over".
It was mainly a boys game where all the boys would gather in a group at the end of the playground with one boy standing in the middle of the playground.
He'd yell "Red Rover Cross Over” and all the other kids had to run to the other end of the playground without being caught.
The kid in the middle had to catch and hold one of them while yelling "caught 123"
The kid caught would then join the kid in the middle for the next call of "Red Rover Cross Over" during which both kids in the middle would catch another kid who would stay in the middle and so on.
The last kid caught would win the game and he'd be the one to stay in the middle for next round.
It was good fun (my three daughters used to play it most afternoons with me) while giving the kids exercise and training for future rugby teams or other sports.
Can anyone else recall playing the same game?

I’m conscious of the aphorism that arguing with a fool makes two, but this was literally the view I had of the “terrible decline” of New Zealand when I stepped outdoors yesterday.
I don’t know about England (I’m guessing that’s your piece of paradise), but I’ll take my homeland any day.

Pretty odd antics on New Zealand X this week about a free trade deal with India, a country that is on track to be one of the worlds largest economies, is a democracy in a world where those are very rare and authoritarianism is growing rapidly, and provides a massive new market for our trading nation in an era of the greatest geopolitical uncertainty in the last 80 years. Rather than celebrating that; some have been trying to replicate some of the “great replacement” social media angst sweeping Europe - in some cases for what appear to be cynical political reasons, for others out of misunderstanding driven by what they’ve seen from those trying to scare them at a time when they already feel uncertain about the world. The reality is that New Zealand’s sovereignty over permanent immigration, residency pathways, and citizenship remains fully intact. The agreement is limited to temporary mobility, and does not create or lock in any permanent outcomes.

Why do people write tweets like this?
Where every sentence gets a new line.
Sometimes a line might have two sentences. Like this one.
But generally speaking, every sentence has a new line, making a tweet look like a long block of text that no one reads.
Worse still, such tweets are often repetitive and winding, hammering on the same point over and over again.
The writing is often very bad.
