Hundreds of Iowans are filling the Iowa Capitol rotunda this morning as a line of people waiting to get in stretches outside the building ahead of a hearing on a bill removing civil rights protections for transgender Iowans.

And to my trans siblings within the state that would be impacted by this: I'm sorry. It isn't fair that any of us have to deal with this. It's utterly exhausting to be treated like a problem to solve, day in and day out. We need each other, now more than ever.

All of these represent potentially seismic changes for Iowa's trans community. It cannot be stressed enough how wide-ranging this proposal is. To my Iowa journalism colleagues: this needs to be covered. I am happy to be a resource to any and all of you, no matter the outlet

Breaking my long hiatus from posting here. Today, the Iowa legislature introduced HSB 242, the most wide-ranging piece of legislation impacting trans Iowans I've seen in my eight years living here. It would remove gender identity from Iowa's Civil Rights Act and also much more:

finished reading Dune, it's great but I'm cackling how there's no falling action *spoilers for a book from 1965* Paul kills his rival (who he's never met before), hatches a sham marriage plan to become emperor, and embraces jihad in like 5 pages and then the book just ends!

@mariovrossi I only added that because Dune 2 is still in theaters so I figure there's like one guy out there who might've wanted to see it this weekend and get mad at me if I didn't put any warning lmaoooo

@could_be_rogan right, like that's clearly an intentional choice to show the Fremen as a force so overwhelmingly dominant now that they have Paul's "weirding" training, but it does remove some stakes from the final push!

@Nora_JSR My exact reaction. The big final battle is just, like, "The Fremen won and it wasn't even close," which I guess is the point
