I need to be even more retarded so I don't realize that I'm retarded, I need to cross the retard event horizon, then surely I'll be happy.

I wasn't ready for FFXIV elitists to be worse than D2 elitists Yes you'd be doing yourself a great disservice skipping all MSQ and the role quests that explain you how mechanics work in the game and provide a learning curve (dungeons and trials increasing in difficulty) but thats ultimately the player's choice And ARR is genuinely tied with D2's horrible new player experience, its such a slog of a campaign even if its followed by some of the best story I have ever played in an RPG.

It’s 2026, we are gonna be 6 expansions deep into FFXIV soon. Can we stop with the weird gatekeepy behavior if someone doesn’t want to play through 250 hours of story to be able to play some of the best MMO raid encounters ever made? Heaven forbid someone asks you a small lore question if they start getting interested in the story after starting the game 10 years late. Are we really gonna keep driving people away with this weird NIMBY ritual? Just use your social skills (lol) and answer the small question, suggest they start a story alt on their downtime, or direct them to a synopsis video on YouTube. Crying about “story skippers” this deep into a game’s development cycle is peak cringe. If they set up a skip to Dawntrail for new characters to jump into the new story arc I and many others feel like it would be beneficial for the game’s long term health. While the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc is great storytelling it’s also not a sacred cow for people to clutch pearls over. At the end of the day, it’s a game to be played. We’re all better than this and should start acting like it.

ngl think everyone is barking at the wrong tree, the problem is not skipping MSQ its legit just that ARR is still awful as an introduction to new players and for veterans to help said players even D2 has overcome this with power lvl matching, maybe they should introduce more low lvl dungeons or non-MSQ-adjacent dungeons for both new and veterans to play together, or better yet make ARR fun to play through

I personally wouldn't gatekeep anyone for skipping MSQ, mainly cause ARR is a boring slog of a story to introduce new players to the game (its awful wish they'd shorten it further) but if you skip all the way to DT you'd skip not only some of the best stories in the game's expansions but also the learning curve of the dungeons, trials and raids, job progression per job and per class and you just sign up to more of the same quest format for future dlcs Idk I just can't fathom why someone would skip the entire game instead of playing something they'd enjoy. People say its to get more players even if they are clueless instead of no players at all but if thats your objective those players are 9 times out of 10 not gonna stay for more than 1 month. Player retention also plays a factor in it and a good first impression, good story and good gameplay factor in that. I swear you fix ARR and its 100 hour snoozefest you would solve the first impression part which for new players its the most daunting task of all.

Honestly, if you don't care about story, and you just want to play an MMORPG that's focused entirely around endgame, then I'm not sure Final Fantasy XIV is for you. So much of it is about the journey, rather than the destination, like how classic RPG's used to be. If you just want endgame, which is fine, I'd honestly play World of Warcraft instead, instead of trying to push Final Fantasy XIV to be like World of Warcraft. We can have different games for different people. Final Fantasy XIV is about going on a long and slow journey of exploration, meeting and befriending both story characters and other players, and becoming attached to the world and its mysteries. So many of its most impactful and awe inducing moments are exactly because of that slow journey it took you to get there. And if that's not your you, again, that's okay. But you should probably find another game.
