@topvint @Normal_Andy When I did my first restore/cleaning on this Xbox, is stripped it all the way down to the motherboard cleaned it, cleaned the fan, re thermo pasted both heatsinks, that was mun1st time and it did well, and cleaned the exterior. Loved that project

Well, first part of the surgery is a success. Organ (disk drive) removed, awaiting new organ (new/used disk drive). Clock capacitor removed, motherboard and fan still clean from last restore/cleaning.

Been working hard to get the most out of the modbo5 chip. Plays PS1 & PS2 backups flawlessly, streams games over Ethernet and the USB functionality is excellent. Was a lot of work to get setup, not gonna lie but I'm stoked with the final results 😂👍

@topvint @316Glock Mine is touch and go, it breaks my heart to hear it struggle, some days it's fine then others it's suddenly making noises. I'm gonna do that DVDless mod next I reckon.

@Normal_Andy @316Glock Oh yes, sorry, I wrongly read it was the HDD. You can absolutely replace the optical drive without modding it 👍

@topvint @316Glock Yes, it's locked and in order to replace it and unlock it it needs to be modded. I think he's replacing the disk drive though, I'm pretty sure they're swappable.

@316Glock @Normal_Andy If you are replacing that HDD don't you need to mod it first? 🤔 I mean, I guess you could just sof mod it, get the HDD key, lock the new HDD with the key, replace HDD and remove the soft mod... But once you are at it 🤷

@Normal_Andy Now imagine that you do that, it stays in that state for six months then you pop in that rare expensive PS2 game Rule of Rose in it and then it ruins the disc for you. That would be awful, no?

Disc spindle on the left, disc drive ribbon cable on the right. Now I see what they mean about PS2 Slims scratching discs.

@leo__oliveira I dunno mate, it's doin this regardless on all my models, as the laser moves to read the disc the ribbon pops up and is in the path of the disc regardless of how it's shut down, I'm sure you're right as well I'm just saying.

@Normal_Andy No, it's about letting the machine sit for a long while with the optical pickup in the center as it deforms the flex causing the problem.
