I made the most of the bank holiday and visited All Saints Church at Down Ampney, which has a memorial stained glass window to the men and women of the Royal Air Force, the 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions and Air Despatch Groups R.A.S.C. who took part in operations from Down Ampney, including Normandy on D-Day and Operation Market Garden.

The GSGS 4250 was the British Army's 1:50,000 map series of France, carried by Allied troops on D-Day and throughout the Normandy campaign. I've put together a guide to the series with a regularly updated index of free digitised copies available online normandywarguide.com/articles/gsgs-…

In the early hours of D-Day, Pte John Steele of the 82nd Airborne became caught on the steeple of the Church at Sainte-Mere-Eglise, where he hung while the battle raged below. His effigy still hangs from the tower as a tribute to all airborne soldiers who took part in the Normandy landings normandywarguide.com/place/sainte-m…

@rentaquill I plan on doing a writeup on it in the near future, covering the technical details including how I provide the AI with the right tools to complete the task accurately and validate its results (although I still do manual reviews!)

A photo from earlier this week where I gave a lightning talk at PHPSW on optimising the war diary geocoding process with AI. Not just prompting ChatGPT, but utilising agentic AI workflows combined with a custom MCP server to integrate directly with the site and its tooling, making the whole process faster and more efficient.
