@Egotolegend How you end up with prompters thinking they're artists is the semantic collapse of 'artist' as a word with a specific meaning. If you create a culture where everyone is equally an artist, you lose the right to curate who appropriates that title.
English

@NotFuji_ Saying “just ain’t it” is how you end up with people who think “genAi” is the solution to becoming Artist, “just ain’t it” is how you end up with people resenting Artists and hating them
When the truth of the matter is they just lack Time, Patience and Interest
English

I'm going to go ahead and disagree.
If you've ever taught an art class, you quickly start to realize that some people just ain't it, not for lack of trying. Sure, you can train nearly anyone with enough effort. But often that effort includes remaking a person entirely.

Most art "talent" is just 10k+ hours of ugly warmup doodles and practice sheets that nobody sees, but potentially artistic individuals would rather doompost "i'm just not creative", "oh I wish I could draw", and doomscroll instead of sitting down for 30 minutes a day and accepting their sketchbook will look and feel like a crime scene for the first two-three years (event less for those who are determined). No one's born with talent, an affinity maybe. But that affinity does nothing if you don't train it.

@haloluliart Creativity and expression are different things entirely. A lack of creativity is often what holds back technical skills, not the other way around. Art has very little rote knowledge, so the ability to do arbitrary problem solving is the make or break for how far you go.
English

@NotFuji_ The discussion can be more complicated but a large portion of people aren’t in either of these categories and are more likely held back by failing to view their skill level as a toolset. Even if you haven’t achieved mastery you can be creative with a basic level of drawing.
English

@Marpaparp Seriously, though. I’ve always assumed the context is that it refers to roleplay you take so seriously it bleeds over into your actual personality. Poser who starts genuinely believing they’re not a poser.
English

@natisneato This is also a problem in tabletop, it’s an RPG thing in general.
English

@hirotonfa That's a little disingenuous. Most of the backlash has been aimed at people using the dad simulator as political clickbait.
English

@Alphons63 It depends on your definition of realism.
On one hand you could say at least half the Artstation front page fills that criteria, the 3D artists especially.
On the other hand, you could say none of them do.

@mootsheep Nothing catastrophic is going to happen, but you may change the melting and flow characteristics somewhat. Try to wick up as much of the original solder as you can and glob on lots of flux, but beyond that I wouldn't worry about it.
English

@mootsheep Type of solder and flux doesn't really matter. 63/37 is the easiest to work with, but with a tiny bit of patience you can use whatever. Old electronics aren't picky.
