US rifle companies often suffered nearly 100% casualties within a couple days. The turn over was insane. It was a real meat grinder. Many replacements were thrown right into battle without knowing the guys in their squad and became casualties within the first. During the battle of the Bulge, the shortage of riflemen was got so bad that even cooks, truck drivers and air defense crews were sent to the front to fill in the gaps.

My grandfather's rifle company landed on Iwo Jima with 256 Marines and sailors. He was one of 8 from the original 256 who was still with the company when the island was declared secured, despite being wounded twice. His company sustained more KIA in one month on Iwo Jima than any Marine battalion sustained in Iraq or Afghanistan on a single deployment. Marines will always rise to the occasion, but let's hope we never repeat this.

When I travelled the world throughout my twenties I remember the waves of peace, gratitude and relief I would feel upon returning home. To MY country. Where the people looked, acted and talked like me.
I cannot articulate the dread I feel when I consider the reality of home becoming foreign, no escape or reprieve from the chaos of the third world, that there will be no home to return to ever again.

🚨#BREAKING: Police and businesses are panicking in Winston-Salem NC as over 200 teenagers took over the streets of downtown, blocking traffic until 2AM. The teens began dancing on cars, fighting, drinking alcohol while throwing scooters, and even macing each other in the face with pepper spray. According to one business owner, kids began to throw scooters at "friends they didn't like at school" and then the teens began macing each other in the face and fighting.
