@ELuttwak You are correct and I get a facial twitch every time some mook misuses this very specific term.

Dept of War needs to prohibit the use of "decimate" unless to describe the killing/destruction of only 10% of the targeted enemy (decem= 10). Of course it would be much better if Latin were obbligatory at West Point & Greek at Annapolis to upgrade inter-service rivalries.

The Iran war has revealed something Europeans had forgotten: the US depends on Europe as much as Europe depends on the US. In denying the Pentagon use of its bases, Spanish PM @sanchezcastejon revealed a strategic leverage Europe never thought to use A coordinated EU stance on military base would be a game changer What are you waiting for EU ‘leaders’ in #EUCO?

@DerrickDaye @BrandingInsider By the same logic, the CEO should also then be the CTO. And the CRO. Maybe a few other C’s, as well. At some point, they’ll have to start delegating to people who know their stuff better than the CEO does.

When the CEO has direct responsibility for marketing leadership, the firm benefits from stronger strategic alignment, more compelling brand authenticity, faster decision-making, and a culture focused on delivering value to customers. #CEO #CMO brandingstrategyinsider.com/the-ceo-must-b…

@Simon_Ingari The reward for good work is more work. This often leads to greater opportunity in the company. But not for Sporty here. I’m guessing he just hit his personal ceiling due to a lack of maturity and iffy judgement.

Manager: I noticed all of the hard work that you've been putting in lately. Gen Z: Thank you. I've been finding this project really interesting. Manager: I think you've earned an opportunity to get more involved. It's quite the promotion. Gen Z: Oh, has a new role on the team opened up? I would love to hear more. Manager: Some new responsibilities have been absorbed into our department, and I think you would be the perfect person to take them on. Gen Z: Is there a strategy for who would be taking over my current workload? Manager: You would still be doing it as well. (Gen Z goes silent.) Manager: This is a great opportunity. Congratulations — you earned it. Gen Z: I earned more work for doing good work? Manager: Exactly. Gen Z: But for the same compensation and job title? Manager: This promotion is a big deal. You know we aren't offering it to just anyone. Gen Z: Well, I appreciate you noticing my hard work. It would be a disservice to myself if I were to accept a larger role without an official compensation review. Manager: It's quite a shame to pass up such a great offer for your career. Gen Z: And it's a shame that good work is only recognized with more work. (Manager goes silent.)

@Gcarmi21 Only an idiot dunks on Peters - or DQ - after a season where they lost QB1, WR1 and 2, 3 out of 4 DB’s, 4 ED’s, and who knows what else.

I know it’s low-hanging fruit to dunk on Adam Peters after a 5–12 season, but looking back at year one, the 2025 draft class was actually pretty promising. Why isn't anyone talking about that? 🤔 Rd. 1 - Conerly: He played 100% of snaps at RT as a rookie. ✅️ Rd. 2 - Amos: Looked like a legitimate starting CB before the injury. ✅️ Rd. 4 - Lane: An above-average punt returner who showed growth in his WR role. ✅️ Rd. 6 - Medrano: A non-contributor—essentially a "redshirt" year for the UCLA product. ❌️ Rd. 7 - Croskey-Merritt: 4x Rookie of the Week with 800 yards and 8 TDs in a reserve role. ✅️ Overall solid production from this group. #RaiseHail

I’ve been preaching this since Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay stormed onto the scene The day of the ‘rah-rah’ head coach in the NFL is DONE If you aren’t a young, sophisticated tactician, you are a dinosaur Mike Tomlin reached the end of the line last night… Pete Carroll is already toast They are faded ghosts of a time gone by There’s a reason why Grant Udinski is now getting head coaching interviews at only THIRTY years old The key to the entire NFL now is having a young, smart, sharp head coach who is willing to evolve every game, every half, every quarter and every play.

Donald Trump: “Why can’t we have some people from Norway?” As a Norwegian, here is my answer: In Norway, we have permanent employment guaranteed by law, collective wage agreements, and strong unions. In the US, you can lose your job overnight, without any reason. In Norway, you can be sick without being financially punished. In the US, getting sick can mean losing both your pay and your job. In Norway, we have the right to paid holiday, leave, and a secure pension. And healthcare and education are free. In the US, much of this is up to your boss—if you are lucky. And this is not a coincidence. It is the result of ordinary people standing together, organising, and fighting for these rights. So no thanks, I am not moving to get worse rights. I will stay and defend the working life we have built here.

@discoque90 Can’t see KK as a whiff after JD5’s inaugural season. He was hot as a rocket. Losing JD5, Terry, Noah, and a dozen others can tank a season. My guess is everybody knew KK was gone anyway so a fast exit was mutually beneficial. Whitt, on the other hand, was a whiff.

@ggreenwald These scenarios are not the same. In Venezuela, there is a clean succession plan via the duly elected president, who has widespread public support. There is no vacuum like Afghanistan or Iraq. There is no public support for a guerrilla insurgency.

US forces easily drove Saddam from power, then captured him in December, 2003. The US nonetheless stayed in Iraq for many more years. The vast majority of American troops were killed after Saddam's capture, not before. That's because simply detaining a leader is meaningless.
Robby Starbuck@robbystarbuck

No one would’ve cared about the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan if they had been pulled off like this. It’s never been clearer that our young men in those 2 wars were sacrificed by cowards in DC. It could have been like this Maduro mission. Politicians chose forever $$$ wars instead.

@dwannb Why does this make people uncomfortable? I thought the relationship with Little Richard was pretty well known. This news isn’t news at all.

The truth that still makes people uncomfortable: The Beatles do not exist without Black America. Period. Their sound didn’t fall from the sky. It came straight out of Black American blues and R&B, especially the raw, driving records coming out of Chess Records. Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf — that Chicago blues energy is baked into their DNA. Before America even knew who they were, Little Richard was already schooling them. He took them on tour, showed them how to perform, how to command a stage, how to be loud. Paul McCartney has openly said Little Richard was a major influence on how he learned to sing rock vocals. Their first major U.S. hit? “Twist and Shout.” That song was originally recorded by the The Isley Brothers in 1962. The Beatles’ version wasn’t invention — it was interpretation. And here’s the part history likes to skip: After being rejected by major white-owned U.S. labels like Capitol Records, the Beatles’ early American releases were picked up by Vee-Jay Records — a Black-owned label. Vee-Jay released “Please Please Me” and “Twist and Shout” in the U.S. before Capitol ever touched them. Black music. Black artists. Black labels. Black audiences. This isn’t about “taking credit away.” It’s about telling the full story. Rock music didn’t start in Liverpool. It traveled there — from Black America. And the receipts are everywhere.
