TODAY - A White House official confirms to me President Trump is backing the new Republican plan to fund DHS without money for ICE removal and enforcement efforts, then use the reconciliation process to pass that ICE money along with some elements of the SAVE Act. The official says “conversations are still ongoing, but at this point this seems to be an acceptable solution”

A White House official confirms to me on background they’ve paused talks with Democrats on DHS funding until Sen. Mullin is confirmed as Secretary. That’s expected to happen tonight. The official says “Given that Democrats turned down a previous meeting and that Mullin is likely to be confirmed tonight, it seemed appropriate to wait until after his confirmation to allow him to be a full participant in ongoing conversations.” Confirming @PunchbowlNews

I asked Border Czar Tom Homan if negotiations on reopening DHS are more difficult now that President Trump says he doesn't want a deal on DHS funding until Congress passes the SAVE ACT. He told me "I'm not going to get ahead of the President and what he wants to see in the end. He's talking to members of Congress on both sides so I'll leave that final decision up to the President. Regardless of what happens the next several days, I'm just going to keep doing the mission."
