@gamer_lafan The CPS game catalog is one of the best in the arcade world. The visual and audio feats of that era made the arcade experience so dynamic and fast-paced. The energy of the '90s in all its glory!

If you played Capcom arcade games in the ’90s, you probably remember seeing the Q Sound logo during the opening screens. Back then, I was really curious about what it actually meant, but there was no easy way to find out. I finally understood it years later after buying a Capcom Q GrandAm 25 cabinet. Most standard arcade cabinets simply output the mono sound signal from JAMMA directly without a dedicated amplifier. But this cabinet came with a separate amp designed specifically for stereo input. Because of that, when you connect the stereo outputs from CPS1.5, CPS2, or CPS3 boards to the amp, the sound becomes much richer and more immersive. What impressed me the most was that this cabinet lets you switch between Q Sound and regular mono audio, so I could compare them directly. The stereo sound definitely feels more spacious and cleaner. But the biggest difference comes from the speaker box mounted at the top. It’s made of wood and has a much larger internal space, so the audio quality is on a completely different level compared to the cheap speakers used in ordinary arcade cabinets.

@gamer_lafan What a collection dude! 💙💎😎 Japanese flyers, pamphlets, and chirashi posters are the best way to collect visual art. I have a huge collection of them myself, especially for movies. Video game flyers, on the other hand, have become way too expensive these days.

As I’ve been collecting Neo Geo games, I also started gathering related materials, and one of my favorites is Neo Geo game flyers and posters. The flyers seem to have been produced for promotional purposes aimed at arcade operators rather than general consumers. I imagine they might have been available at events like AOU Amusement Expo, where you could pick them up at the SNK booth. As for the posters, they were typically used as promotional displays in arcades and were often included when purchasing a game. Since both items were not for sale and weren’t intended for the general public, they’ve been quite difficult to find despite years of collecting. That’s probably why they’ve become some of the most cherished pieces in my collection.

@jvprat @gamer_lafan "Reverse engineering involves analyzing an existing product to understand its design, dimensions, and functions. This technical process makes it possible to reproduce or improve a component for which the original drawings are no longer available, or to optimize it." 🌝

Here are my thoughts on the Neo Geo AES+. Since it’s been confirmed to use an ASIC rather than emulation, it will likely have a structure very close to the original Neo Geo AES. That said, whether this “authenticity” is a strength or a weakness is up for debate. Being identical in design essentially means it’s optimized for CRT displays, so the HDMI output will probably be comparable to older RGB-to-HDMI converters. Because of that, when connected to a modern LCD TV, the image quality could actually feel inferior to today’s emulator-based systems. Another drawback is the likely lack of support for external storage like SD cards. If that’s the case, paying around $90 per game becomes a significant burden. It might be more acceptable if a steady stream of new titles were released, but if not, there’s a real chance the system’s usable library could be limited to the initial lineup of around ten games. On top of that, if the package art had been identical to the original releases, it would have added more collectible appeal—but the designs revealed so far are noticeably different. On the other hand, the story changes completely if you own a CRT TV. Being able to experience visuals and feel almost identical to the original Neo Geo is a huge advantage. There are even rumors of RGB output support, which could deliver an even better image when paired with a dedicated display or monitor. In the end, the Neo Geo AES+ could be the perfect gift for old-school gamers who have long admired the Neo Geo. But for more casual players without that nostalgia, it may end up being nothing more than an expensive novelty.

@flazza @gamer_lafan That's great because some games used to lag when there were too many sprites; this will give them a significant performance boost.

@gamer_lafan I have read in some places that it has an 'overclock' mode.. but I find that strange if that had been paired with giving the base unit more ram then it would have gone a long way towards homebrew or indie dev

The roots of SNK fighting games really come from the Fatal Fury series. It grew side by side as a rival to Street Fighter II, and it’s honestly an iconic series. These days, it feels like it’s been absorbed into The King of Fighters series, but with the recent release of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the legacy of Fatal Fury is finally continuing again. If you grew up in the arcade era, there’s a good chance you loved this series.

Looks like a sample of the Neo Geo AES+ is already out. I really wish November would come sooner.

@Polygon1993 Ce sera le suivant dans ma liste 😄👌🏻, avec Shock Troopers et Mark of the Wolves. Ce qui serait totalement fou c'est qu'ils sortent 90% du catalogue pour la prochaine fournée de jeu. J'attends Last Resort, Mutation Nation, Robo Army, Sengoku etc
