@sarkonakj This could produce some interesting results if you have members of American tribes that formerly resided in BC applying en mass.

Here's the lineage. A single Canadian great-great-grandparent has given this person a right to our social safety net and a stake in our democracy. It's not fair whatsoever.

What "taking back control of immigration" looks like: Under Bill C-3, anyone who can find a Canadian in their family tree is considered Canadian. Here's an example of a person whose last Canadian ancestor was born in 1835, nearly 200 years ago. Approval took 3 weeks.

@stuartlosaltos I used to think there was some sort of route back to sanity for most like this but I'm not sure thats the case anymore. As they shed their saner former associates it just seems like an endless radicalization spiral of stupid. No bottom in sight.

Made the mistake of reading a progressive friend's Facebook page and discovered a new moronic take on Iran. Whether or not you agree with the US-Israel bombing campaign, I cannot believe otherwise sane people are arguing that Mossad "fooled" the "feebleminded women of Iran" into falsely believing they are oppressed. But that is the Max Blumenthal horse shit asshats are circulating.

@feelsdesperate Propagated through the universities who have had no contact with the real world since the mid sixties. They are still stuck in the framing from 60 years ago.

It can’t be real ‘third worldism,’ right? Because the liberational movements that spawned that ideology are now 50 to 70 years in the past? People are using third-worldist rhetorical framing more but it doesn’t quite fit. They seem to use it out of convenience - it’s familiar (they’ve studied it) and they need something to placard onto an ideology of resentment, malice, and entitlement that is otherwise too sclerotic and muddled to articulate itself.
Helen Andrews@herandrews

Normally I consider debates about ideological taxonomy pointless, but the left in America is undergoing a major transformation right now and we really need a name for the new thing. “Wokeness” is totally inadequate. “Third Worldism” is better but still imperfect.

What sucks is that NYT articles tend to be retarded and you waste your 11th and 12th grade reading level on garbage that the philistine morons who can't read at all could see through if it was put to them in terms they could follow. Instead, it makes midwits feel smart
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

If you have the basic skills to participate in the discourse at all — like you can read and comprehend a New York Times article in order to complain about it — you’re in a weird, out of touch, elite bubble. slowboring.com/p/in-defense-o…

This is very unfair of me, but whenever i see an account (esp non-US) dedicated to posting like this Did you know lobsters live to 100? Let me BREAK it down for you: 🧵 i block them. I don’t have the energy to figure out whether they’re spreading something questionable.

I once spent hours on the phone with an inconsolable friend, doubly reeling both from a paramour breakup and her partner’s affair w a woman who triggered intense insecurity. “But a part of me thinks this is beautiful,” she said tearfully, “because it’s like a James Salter novel.”
Madame Fragonard@useful_emetic

at least a few of my bad polyamory stories involve people with hubristic vanity and egotism, who thought they were too unusual and special for monogamy (but, in the end, they realized they wanted monogamy.)

I think of wildlife overpasses as a kind of libertarian-coded "cheapskate" solution for the issue of wildlife mobility (make animals go over a bridge, rather than the highway itself being a viaduct or tunnel). So...why is the California one costing $100M+??
Benji Backer@BenjiBacker

While we're discussing wildlife overpasses, let's discuss why they're important: They prevent ~97% of wildlife collisions They singlehandedly save wildlife populations (and migration patterns) They can save our country $10B per year BUT...they (should) cost $5-15M, not $100M

Talentless Creatives Someone should write the book
expatanon@expatanon

@junker_jo These people are talentless “creatives,” the sort who think they are artists but actually create corporate memphis cartoons, or authors but craft press releases and content marketing blogs; they were the first casualties of AI and are resentful. They all make pottery now.

It turns out that foreign ministers are not aware of the EU legal framework. 😏 Only European countries are eligible for membership in the EU; Canada has in this regard less chance than Turkey which at least is European country but has been facing double standards from the EU.
Hans von der Burchard@vonderburchard

“It’s now time to deliver” on EU enlargement, says German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. Next enlargement round could be done within the next two years, he adds. Besides Iceland considering to join the EU, Norway and perhaps Canada (suggestion of French FM) could do so, too.

Honestly a pretty big white pill that, after a certain unnameable-AI company spent all their time building vile cartoon pornbots, nobody used them, and the company fell possibly-irreparably behind the biggest tech arms race in a generation.
