This is a Business- not a social club… We are here to make a living, not a bunch of friends. This industry is not going to treat you well if this is where you’re looking for lifelong connections- keep that separated from the industry you will thank me later… Sit down and establish YOUR personal boundaries on your own and WRITE THEM DOWN and keep them on hand to reference when making Any deals with other performers/agents/companies etc. BE LOUD and CLEAR UP FRONT with the above mentioned before committing to or joining or signing contracts (which you’d BETTER READ allllll the way through!) If it’s a problem or you’re made to feel like you’re being too demanding/too difficult/“no fun” when you state clearly UP FRONT what your boundaries and expectations are then WALK AWAY!!!! I promise you the money in the moment will never be worth the price you’ll pay in the long run if you ignore your gut feeling or if you’re made to feel silly or difficult. STOP BEING NICE!!!! I cannot stress this enough… STOP IT! People pleasing is hugely attractive to predators- if the business is on the up and up- the people you’re doing business with don’t need or want you to bend over backwards and break your bank/mind/body/spirit for a gig or contract or anything… but the predators do… Be clear up front, be firm and make sure you ask for the person to restate what you’ve communicated back to you in the same conversation so you KNOW they are listening. Trust your gut- if you make an arrangement for business and you start to feel weird, start getting lots of late night or just lots of personal texts etc- cut that shit off immediately… watch their socials… due your due diligence and I’m telling you do not feel bad about making an about face and walking away if you get a bad feeling. As for testing protocol please. Only accept PASS verified tests and don’t just look at a screenshot- you need to be able to log into the verified testing website with the QR code or link and check your co performers test yourself… Keep your personal information, Personal life and personal heart to yourself- so many people in this business love to gather up information on their “competition” and then weaponize it to either manipulate or harm and thus climb over their intended victims and the game usually starts with them being super nice and super interested in everything about you and trying to keep you in long phone conversations and texts etc. Don’t trust anyone until they’ve earned that trust… I don’t give a FUCK- take someone with you to your podcast interviews, collab shoots, agent meetings- they can be your driver I don’t care… if the person has a problem with another person in the room something is VERY wrong with the situation so arrange that up front and see who immediately backs away and who is fine with it. The people who are fine with it are 99.9% likely going to be great to do business with. Ok- if in the LONG run you end up making a few friends over the years here that’s miraculous and wonderful! But don’t do business like a friend and please yall… STOP BEING NICEY NICE! You can do polite business and that’s great but don’t compromise yourself on anything not even a teeny tiny hair of a millimeter on anything ok? I’ve been in this business for almost 17 years and could write books and give TED talks on all I’ve learned about its pitfalls and the personality types that tend to make their homes here- trust me on this, I don’t want to see any more of you get hurt or ripped off or have your lives destroyed.
