i've documented what "building in public" actually means in SF: says they're building in public: - tweets about their startup journey - shares metrics (when good) - posts "lessons learned" - grows following actually building in public: - shares metrics (even when bad) - admits mistakes - shares actual learnings (not just wins) - helps others i've observed 23 "building in public" founders - 19 only share when things are going well (vanity metrics) - 4 actually share real insights (useful) "building in public" has become "marketing in public" real building in public is uncomfortable if you're only sharing wins, you're not building in public you're just promoting
