Spain's LaLiga has blocked access to freedom.gov, an official U.S. government website, in the country. This block occurred amid LaLiga's ongoing anti-piracy efforts. A court ruling authorized LaLiga to require Spanish ISPs to block IP addresses linked to suspected illegal football streams. More recent court decisions have extended similar obligations to VPN providers such as ProtonVPN and NordVPN, classifying them as intermediaries required to restrict access to identified piracy-related IPs. Proton VPN's general manager, David Peterson, publicly noted the incident, pointing out that freedom.gov was being treated as if it hosted unauthorized LaLiga broadcasts.

Freedom.gov is a US government portal to access content banned in Europe and elsewhere, like hate speech or propaganda. Built by the US State Department, with involvement from former DOGE member Edward Coristine and National Design Studio. Launch delayed from last week's Munich Security Conference; site currently shows a teaser. Created amid US-EU tensions over free speech and DSA rules suppressing content. Works as a portal, possibly with built-in VPN to route traffic via US. Available globally, especially for Europeans facing bans. Bypasses DSA by providing US-hosted access, evading local restrictions. No logging or tracking of user activity.
